I pull on my Jurassic Park tank top. “Ready?” Jake asks. “Hold onto your butts,” I respond.
I can’t turn my brain off. “Definitely rod-plate combo,” I tell myself as I view the femur the size of Jake. “They just don’t make i-loc’s that size.” I choose to ignore that they don’t make rods or plates that size either. “Once an orthopod, always an orthopod,” Tess tells me. “Clever girl,” I whisper to myself.
We watch rafters pull into the beach as Leinie digs himself a sand nest. “They’re flocking this way,” I think to myself.
Exploring the ruins of a homestead, I learn a single woman lived and farmed this harsh land. On her own, successfully for 40 years. “Life finds a way,” I say aloud.
