Denver - Somewhere over the Atlantic

Beers Drank: 3.5 + 2 cocktails (3 for Jake)

Woke up to run some errands and finish packing. I can not stress enough how strange it is to have an evening flight out.

Leinie got some doggy weed for a thunderstorm brewing and in preparation for his parents leaving him behind with g-ma. We packed up the car and stopped at the local watering hole to … pregame Oktoberfest? Yes, we’ll go with that…

My mom dropped us off at the airport and as soon as we were inside I realized my phone was still in the car, naturally. So my mom whose nerves were already wrecked from Denver drivers had to loop around so I could collect my phone and depart again. Hehe.

Luggage drop and security were uneventful and quick. A pitstop at the restroom and Qdoba for a belated lunch. Our gate was in A concourse so Jake, airport expert due to his job, took me to the speakeasy bar to wait for boarding. Your girl is a sucker for speakeasy whiskey sours. Whelp, they had a pisco sour on special and let me tell you, whiskey is out and pisco is in. What is pisco, not a damn clue. I had two.

So four drinks in and we’ve yet to board. Definitely off to a good start, cell phone debacle aside.

We head to the gate and Jake gets a hankering for a TB quesadilla which is fair since breakfast was the last full meal, split Qdoba aside. He heads to the cantina and I hit up the shop next door to get some plane snacks and waters. Being a cantina TB, he ended up with a hazy IPA that we split while waiting for boarding.

Due to his work and many, many, many United miles we were in group 2 for boarding. Wait for it…only to find ourselves in the very last row. At least the seats still reclined. I may not remember accurately but I feel Turkish had slightly more comfortable seating but at least Lufthansa had a working tv for me.

They did a round of beverages before dinner service. The menu stated “German beer” as the only beer option and when Jake asked what choices that meant he was handed a can of what we assume is “German beer”. So no options, I had one too. The flight was completely full and by the time the dinner cart made it to our row I got the last chicken option leaving Jake and his neighbor with the vegetarian curry. Jake’s face must’ve looked very sad cuz they scrounged up a beef stew from somewhere.

Jake also asked for a whiskey coke during dinner and it was clearly not Turkish from the look the flight attendant gave him. He still ended up with the drink but he stated it was very, very strong and the whiskey had a heavy smokiness to it. Long time viewers will recognize his regrets face.

After dinner cleanup, I snuggled into my blanket and neck pillow and plugged in my ear plugs and pulled down my sleep mask.
